When we say “handmade”….

We were recently discussing with other crafters the statement “handmade” and whether potential clients understand exactly what those words mean from a crafting context. When we say “handmade” it really means that everything we make is hand made.  In other words, it hasn’t existed before our hands were put to it.  There has been nothing before hand but a tree.  Everything we do is a unique customised joinery project.  We thought you’d like to know what that process entails. Ideas for commercial fitouts on a budget….

In these current times of austerity more and more of our commercial clients are coming under increasing cash flow pressure and are asking us to work with what they have, rather than a total new refurbishment.  As we all become more budget conscious, the process has become even more consultative.  In the words of Austin Powers “Re-use, Re-Cycle, Re-vamp, Baby”!  The 3 most frequently asked questions at the moment are as follows:- Continue reading “Ideas for commercial fitouts on a budget….” »

The passing of an Inspiration…

The inspirational Robin GibbWe are so very sad to learn of the passing of one of our all time inspirational greats, Mr. Robin Gibb, who, aged just 62, lost his battle against cancer yesterday. His music and that of his brothers (the famous BeeGees) is often on full sound speaker here. Indeed on more than a few occasions we have been dancing to Saturday Night Fever. Our children were reared with, and continue to dance to, “You Should Be Dancing”  (it is so good it was re-introduced to a new generation at the end of the fantastic Despicable Me last year).  All through the years Robin Gibb has inspired us and his Continue reading “The passing of an Inspiration…” »

The great fire….

Apologies for the lack of posts over the past few weeks.   I have been chastised by a journalist who said to me “imagine if they only published the Irish Times whenever they felt like it” so I have humbly retreated back to the keyboard. In our defence,  as most of you know, we have had a lot going on here, not least of which was our house

Tourism Heritage Park – Little Acorns shop

Little Acorns was the first Teamwoodcraft shop to open and so we wanted something very special.  It had to embody the Teamwoodcraft principles of great product design and production but it also had to nestle into a heritage park.  After many discussions, pondering, self examination, drawings and re-drawings we finally came up with the solution.  The Little Acorns shop was to mirror the age of the widely visited tourism and heritage site and so we undertook even further research.  I even roped in my Nana (May Finnerty). I have spoken of her in a couple of interviews as she was such a huge inspiration to me.  I needed her input as we needed to ensure that we produced Continue reading “Tourism Heritage Park – Little Acorns shop” »

A labour of love…. Ballyfin Demesne

We started work on our all time favourite project to date, Ballyfin Demesne back in 2008.  Ballyfin is a living history of times past and is located in our own County Laois.  It is the ancestral home to the O’Mores, the Crosbys, the Poles, the Wellesley-Poles – the family of the Duke of Wellington – and the Cootes.  In later years it became an all boys boarding school run by the Patrician Brothers.  Work started on Ballyfin in early 2002 and has taken 9 years of research and restoration to bring it to the standard you see today. The owners Continue reading “A labour of love…. Ballyfin Demesne” »

Once a month we focus on our clients and this week we are focusing on some exciting new developments that our friends at The Promenade Cafe have put together.

For all theatre lovers, Breffni and Yvonne at The Promenade Café have come up with an exciting new project whereby you can have dinner and watch a theatre show all in the one venue, how cool is that? The Promenade itself is a beautiful café located on DunLaoghaire pier, County Dublin, with the most amazing sea views. The café is in the style of a fashionable French coffee house. The food and service is superb. It’s an up and coming theatre hotspot and is frequented by extremely Continue reading “The Teamwoodcraft Community – Client Newsboard” »

The story of a Teamwoodcraft Tree

All over the world trees wait anxiously to see if they have been chosen to become part of a TWC creation. They all stand together waiting, waiting, “please let it me be” they cry. The master cabinet maker waves his wand, suddenly the tree comes back to life as a beautiful functional piece of furniture.

Rocks Jewellers Grafton Street Dublin

Rocks Jewellers silver inlaid cabinetsAs we have just finished refurbishing Rocks second store in Stillorgan and as it’s one of Dublin’s favourite jewellers, I thought this week that we would feature them.  Rocks have two unique shops filled with fine diamonds, engagement rings, the hottest brands, antiques, modern jewellery and timepieces. Rocks Jewellers is a second generation family business so it was imperative that their fit out matched their reputation and clients desires.  Having almost 40 years experience in the industry, they have a huge e Continue reading “Rocks Jewellers Grafton Street Dublin” »

McDonnells Bar Newbridge

McDonnells pub NewbridgeIf ever there was a “before and after” job this is it.  ”What an extreme difference a TWC fitout makes” is just one of the comments we received after our fitout at McDonnells (prevously known as Neesons) of Newbridge.  Also known as Eric McDonnells bar, due to its prime location in the centre of the town, Neesons is oneof the liveliest spots in Newbridge County Kildare.  We were asked to come on board for this project by the owners with the designer on this job being

Hi All, please note that Teamwoodcraft is now closed for the summer holidays.  Please note that we will re-open on Tuesday the 9th of August.

Home Makeovers continued … The Kitchen

Well I am in real creative mode this weather, inspiration being the upcomingkitchen currently article on our home in one of the broad sheets (stay posted for more details on that later).  The room to be made over is that most sacred of spaces……the kitchen.  I love cooking and having friends over and so the kitchen in our house is the real hub and I do get emotionally involved with it.  I did write about my kitchen in an earlier blog and whilst I do love it, it’s looking a bit sad lately, Continue reading “Home Makeovers continued … The Kitchen” »

Charity Event Cancelled …..

It is with great regret that the team have decided to cancel the Charity Treasure Hunt.  We had put our hearts and souls into it for the past 2 months and really felt it was going to a super fun event.

Despite really trying to push the event as hard as we could only a couple of charities signed up.  One charity did make the point that some other charities weren’t on Facebook and Continue reading “Charity Event Cancelled …..” »

The Inspiration Video

The countdown continues…..

We are delighted to announce that CARI have also entered the treasure  hunt.   The group CARI logo do fantastic work in what is a very difficult and sensitive area.

The CARI Foundation was established in 1989.  CARI’s primary aim is to provide a proffesional, child centred therapy and counselling service to children families and groups who have been affected by child sexual abuse.  Alongside this they aim to provide the most up to date education and information service for children, adults and professionals on the dynamics of child sexual abuse, and, moreover, to raise the public and political awareness of these issues.

They operate on a not for profit basis, ensuring that their services are accessible regardless of a clients means or situation.  CARI is seeking to ensure that everyone who may need their services can get them, no matter where they live.  We want to help CARI ensure that everyone is aware of their services and that they will be able to take advantage of the information, advice and therapy they provide.

If you would like to know more, or if you would like to help CARI please log on to their website which is www.cari.ie.

Good luck to CARI.

The latest on the Charity Treasure Hunt

Well the charities are ready to go to the starting line, the Riddler has put her pen down, the clients are all on tender hooks, Jack Sparrow’s on his way to the secret location to bury the treasure, and the press releases have gone out (phew).  Only a couple of weeks to go now before the kick off for the first ever Teamwoodcraft All Ireland Charity Treasure Hunt takes place (for the fun element – think Professor Layton on speed).  We had great fun preparing the riddles and testing them out.   We hope that all the teams will have great fun trying to answer them.

Headway broke into the lead straight away by becoming the first Charity to officially register so we really wish Kieran and all the gang there the very best of luck.  In case you were not aware of them, Headway was established to help those who are unfortunate enough to have a brain injury.  Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) is the term given to any injury to the brain sustained during the course of a person’s life. It is very traumatic experience for the person involved, and their family, Headway offer support to both those injured and their families.

If you would also like to check out Headway or support Headway, please log onto their website www.headway.ie.

It’s all getting very exciting now but we still need MORE CHARITIES so please get your favourite charity to register on www.facebook.com/teamwoodcraft.

Some thoughts on Accessories…. …..

Greengate quilt from www.garrendennylane.comWhen accessorizing your rooms it’s important to know when to STOP. (My friend Mona @wisemona was commenting on the over use of the exclamation mark at the #bi11 International Bloggers Convention the other night She says it’s better to use raised capitals than over use the humble! so I am taking her tips on board! 5 Free Pub Fitout Tips………….

We are getting lots of special requests lately, particularly about areas where we can achieve the desired look and feel of a new pub fit out, – but with funding becoming scarce – at a fraction of the cost. Actually the recession isn’t all bad as it makes businesses very focused on being as creative as possible with smaller budgets.
